This page will be used to keep you up to date on what is happening in Ms. Pierce's music and dance classroom.

Kindergarten

In January and February we will continue to work on routines for the music classroom and finding our singing voices. Students will learn Name Game Songs as well as songs about using their singing voice and treating each other with kindness. We will explore keeping the beat with our bodies and simple percussion instruments.

 Grade 3 and 3/4

Recorders! We are currently learning proper playing technique on the recorder. Students are learning the how to play notes B, A, G and C and read standard notation on the staff in the treble clef.

Grade 4 and 4/5

Orff! Students in Madame Bayne and Mr Abbey's classes are learning how to play the Orff instruments and how to read music in the treble clef. The Orff instruments include the xylophone, metalophone, glockenspiel and various unpitched percussion instruments. We are currently learning Three Little Birds.

Grade 5/6

Orff! The grade 5 and 6's are continuing to build on the skills they learned last year and reviewing the notes in the treble and bass clefs. We will be starting by learing the song "Thunder" by Imagine Dragons on the Orff instruments and then students will use their knowledge to compose their own pieces on the Orff instruments.

Grade 6/7 and 7/8

Guitar! We will be learning the basics of playing the guitar. Students will learn how to read absolute note names, play the G scale, strumming patterns and basic chords. The culminating task of this unit will be a student composition using GarageBand.
