Grade 9 and 10 Health and Physical Education Courses

Healthy Active Living - Female, Male, Grade 9 Open - PPL1OF/PPL1OM

This course emphasizes regular participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that promote lifelong healthy active living. Students will learn movement skills and principles, ways to improve personal fitness and physical competence, and safety and injury prevention. They will investigate issues related to healthy sexuality and the use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, and will participate in activities designed to develop goal-setting, communication, and social skills.

Healthy Active Living - Male, Grade 10 Open - PPL2OM

This course builds on skills learned in grade 9, and emphasizes regular participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that promote lifelong healthy, active living. Student learning will include the application of movement principles to refine skills in activities like basketball, volleyball, badminton, hockey, soccer, and weight training. Students will participate in a variety of activities that enhance personal competence, fitness and health. You will examine issues related to healthy sexuality, healthy eating, substance use and abuse and work to develop social skills needed in making personal choices.

Personal & Fitness Activities – Female, Grade 10 Open - PAF2OF

Have you ever wanted to try yoga? How about kickboxing? Do you know what the new fitness trend called piloxing is? If you love workout classes, this is the course for you. The focus of this class is having fun and developing physical fitness while participating in different fitness activities. Past activities include self-defense, yoga, aerobics, piloxing, kickboxing, and weight training. Students will participate in a variety of activities that enhance personal competence, fitness and health. You will examine issues related to healthy sexuality, healthy eating, substance use and abuse, and work to develop social skills needed in making personal choices.
