Exploring Technologies - Grade 9 - Open - TIJ1O1
Description: This course enables students to further explore and develop technological knowledge and skills introduced in the elementary science and technology program. They will develop an awareness of related environmental and societal issues and will begin to explore secondary and post secondary pathways leading to careers in the field. Students will be given the opportunity to design and create products and/or services, working with a variety of tools, equipment and software commonly used in industry. Etobicoke C.I. offers this broad-based course, focusing on three areas within the technological education curriculum.
i. Exploring Construction Technology: Students are introduced to carpentry and woodworking concepts and skills. In this component of the course, they will solve open ended technological challenges by designing and creating projects using a variety of tools and processes.
ii. Exploring Manufacturing Technology: Students are introduced to manufacturing technology concepts and skills that encompass technical drawing, properties and preparation of materials, manufacturing techniques, and control systems.
iii. Exploring Transportation Technology: Students are introduced to transportation technology, which encompasses the maintenance, servicing, and repair of various types of vehicles.
