Programs

Literacy:

High expectations for all! All teachers participate in Professional Learning Communities to ensure effective analysis of data & instruction. We have a focus on using the successful strategies of Learning Goals and Success Criteria that are made with the students to enhance student learning through student independence.

Numeracy:

A priority at George R. Gauld Junior School! Differentiated instruction, descriptive feedback and the use of math manipulatives and a problem solving approach characterize the math programs at GRG.

Community, Culture & Caring:

We make a great team! GRG values our community. We engage our parent community by ensuring parent-teacher communication. We welcome volunteers and have an active School Council. We engage in the wider community by participating in activities such as the Mimico Tulip Festival, hosting BBQs and through our grade 5 Hockey Academy at the Master Card Centre.

EcoSchools:

We care about the Earth! GRG values our environment. We are committed to creating and sustaining a culture where everyone respects the Earth. We engage in activities that promote a healthier and cleaner environment for everyone including tree planting, student-run recycling programs, the Mayor's Earth Day Clean-Up and a student garden at the front of the school.

What Sets Us Apart:

Amazing School Council:

GRG boasts a very involved School Council comprised of parents who are dedicated to their children's learning and the creation of positive experiences for all students at school. They have successfully raised funds for the school through a grant from the Rotary Club of Etobicoke, and the Ministry of Education's Parent Reaching Out Grants. They have provided funds to purchase classroom books and have organized parent information sessions including Homework Support, Nutrition, Motivational Athlete Talks and host Movie Nights, Family Games Nights, Craft Nights and Sports Nights! Thank you to a fabulous School Council who helps to set GRG apart!

Student Life:

At George R. Gauld Junior School, students are involved in many enrichment and extra curricular activities. Students can participate in our Cross Country Running Club, Track & Field, Soccer, Volleyball, Flag Rugby and Softball Teams. Our students visit Outdoor Field Study Centres, and our Grade 5 students travel to Ottawa. We have a very strong EcoSchools program that develops students' awareness and understanding of environmental needs through yard clean-ups, tree planting, recycling and participation in Earth Hour. Student life is also enriched by assemblies that acknowledge positive behviours and the demonstration of the TDSB Character Traits. Grade 5 students have many leadership opportunities including Announcement Monitors, Spirit Day and Play Day Buddies . All students are involved in Anti-Bully Talks and YARFY: You Are Responsible For Yourself!

Close Ties With Community:

We have a strong relationship with Police Officers and all students enjoy frequent visits from Officer Rich. Students visit the Mimico Library, go ice skating at Mimico Arena and participate in the Mimico Tulip Festival. We support the community through an annual Food Drive during the holiday season to support institutions like The Women's Habitat. We work with Cornerstone Church to offer a mathematics tutoring program.
