Breakfast and Snack Program

Breakfast and Snack Program Overview

One of the most popular programs we offer at Glen Park, in order to honour our commitment to the health and wellness of our students, would be our "Breakfast Program" and our "Morning Snack Program." Studies show that a child's ability to focus and retain information improves when they are well nourished. Our programs are volunteer-based and funded by municipal dollars through the Toronto Foundation for Student Success and with Provincial dollars through the Canadian Living Foundation. We also receive donations of food from local businesses such as: Bagel World, What-a-Bagel and Moxie's. Our breakfast program begins feeding students at 8:00 a.m. and provides both a nutritious start to their day and an invaluable service to many of our working parents. The snack program is prepared in the same kitchen and then delivered to each class before the morning recess.

Breakfast Program

Starting your day with a healthy breakfast not only makes you feel good but enhances your ability to work productively.   Students who enroll in the program, each will receive a well balanced meal consisting of the 4 food groups, including possibly receiving veggies and dip, cheese, toast, pancakes, juice and or milk.

The breakfast would be provided from 7:45am-8:25am in the Lunch Room for students in grades JK-6. Only those registered with the Breakfast Program will receive a breakfast. Since only a portion of the program cost is supported by the Toronto Foundation for Student Success, in order to ensure the availability of this program, a suggested contribution of $50.00 would be appreciated from each student for the entire year. A tax receipt will be issued for those writing a cheque to the Foundation. All parents are welcome to make a donation to the program if they wish; however, it is not mandatory in order to participate.

Students in this program must have parental permission and complete the health form informing us of any allergies or dietary restrictions. Every year once a student has been registered, they will be notified of the start of the Breakfast Program.

In order to make the Breakfast Program a success, we need volunteers to perform various tasks: preparing the food (cutting fruit and vegetables), setting up before the students' arrival, delivering the snacks, and a quick clean up. Only the generosity of volunteers can ensure a successful Snack Program.

Please complete the Breakfast Program Form as soon as possible and return to your child's teacher, who will deliver it to the school office.

Snack Program

Enjoying a healthy snack not only makes you feel good but enhances your ability to work productively.  Through Glen Park's snack program students receive a well balanced snack consisting of 3 food groups, including possibly receiving veggies and dip, a slice of cheese, toast, and fruit.

The snack would be delivered to the classes and offered before Morning Recess for students in grades JK-6. Since only a portion of the program cost is supported by The Toronto Foundation for Student Success, in order to ensure the availability of this program, a one time contribution of $50.00 would be appreciated from each student for the entire year. A tax receipt will be issued for those writing a cheque to the Foundation. All parents are welcome to make a donation to the program if they wish; however, it is not mandatory in order to participate.

Students receiving snack must have parental permission and complete the health form informing us of any allergies or dietary restrictions.
