Amazing Race Grade 7

Welcome to Hillside’s Amazing Race. Students will have the chance to explore different types of orienteering tools (mapping, compass, and gps units), to help guide them through the Rouge Park or Greenwood Park as they achieve the various legs of the race. As the students become more proficient in these skills they will complete the course. This day will potentially peek their interest in the exciting world of orienteering.

For you History Buffs- we also have a race geared toward some significant events of the War of 1812

Overall Expectations:

Geography
  • A.2. Inquiry: use the geographic inquiry process to investigate the impact of natural events and / or human activities that change the physical environment, exploring the impact from a geographic perspective 
  • A.3. Understanding Geographic Context: demonstrate an understanding of significant patterns in Earth’s physical features and of some natural processes and human activities that create and change those features 
History
  • B2. Inquiry: use the histrical inquiry process to investigate perspectives of different groups on some significant events, developments, and / or issues that affected Canada and / or Canadians between 1800 and 1850

Specific Expectations

Geography
  • A.2.3 analyse and construct maps as part of their investigations into the impact of natural events and / or human activities that change the physical evenvironment, with a focus on investigating the spacial boundaries of the impact. 
  • A.3.3 demonstrate the ability to extract information from and analyse topographical maps 

History
  • B.2.2 gather and organize informantiona dn evidence about perspectivies of different groups on some significant events, developments, and / or issudes that affected Canada and / or Canadians during this period, using a variety of primary resouces and secondary sourses. 
  • B.2.3 analyse and construct maps as part of their investigations into some significant events, developments, and / or issues that affected Canada and / or Canadians during this period, with a focus on exploring their spatial boundaries.
