Optional Attendance status for Kensington Community School for 2025-2026
  • Regular Program: Limited
A school classified as limited can accept students on optional attendance. A school whose optional attendance status is limited is not obliged to accept all students who apply on optional attendance. Acceptance is conditional upon space being available in the appropriate grade and program. If you are out of area, and looking to enrol, please check with the office for further information.

Kensington Community School, at 401 College St is located at the south-east corner of College and Lippincott St in the Kensington Market/Chinatown Neighbourhoods. Open since 1973, the school currently offers a Regular program from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6; and an Autism Intensive Support Program from Grades 1 to 6 (4 classrooms and 1 Autism Sensory classroom). Students are centrally placed in the Autism program through an Identification Placement and Review Committee (IPRC) decision.

Kensington Community School is a shared facility with Toronto Urban Studies Centre (TUSC), Adult ESL, TDSB Permits offices, and Kensington Kids Early Learning Centre. St. Albans Boys & Girls Club provides after school care and recreation programs for students in grades 1 to 6.

 2025-2026 School Year

The school office is currently closed and reopens on Monday, August 25, 2025. The first day of school for students is Tuesday, September 2, 2025!

The School office opens Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

 Morning Entry/Bell Times

8:35 am Scheduled Supervision Begins on School Yard; 8:50 am (Kindergarten to Grade 6); 8:50 am Instructional Day Begins

 Recess and Lunch Times

10:30 am (Morning Recess); 11:20 am (Kindergarten Lunch) and 11:35 am (Grades 1-6 Lunch); 2:10 pm (Afternoon Recess)

 End of School Day

3:00 pm (Kindergarten Dismissal); 3:15 pm (Grades 1-6 Dismissal)

 Safe Arrival Program

Absent Reporting - Anytime students are or will be absent the absence must be reported to the school by using the School Messenger App or by telephone at 1-833-250-2290. See Safe Arrival Program info for additional details. Early Departure - Students MUST have permission to leave school during school hours. They must be signed out by an authorized parent, guardian or caregiver at the main office.

 Visitors

Visitors to the school must begin their visit by reporting to the main office and signing in with staff. Doors are locked and all visitors must adhere to the school’s safety procedures. This is to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, parents, and staff.
