Removal of Trees Killed by the Emerald Ash Borer at Schools in Ward 22

The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) is hosting an information meeting regarding the removal of trees on school properties due to the invasion of beetles. The emerald ash borer (EAB) is an invasive beetle that is in the process of killing a large numbers of ash trees in southern Ontario.
Many schools in Ward 22 are impacted but the hardest hit schools are Jack Miner Sr. PS and Sir Wilfrid Laurier CI. Together, they have almost 300 ash trees on site. In spite of an effort to inject some of the trees with a bio-pesticide, none of the trees are expected to survive.
In order to minimize the risk to students, staff, parents and the community, the TDSB has been removing trees across the city and will continue to do so this winter.
Since the removal of the trees will have a major impact on in Ward 22, an information meeting will be held on Monday, February 2, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in the library at Sir Wilfrid Laurier CI, 145 Guildwood Parkway.

TDSB staff will share their plans for removing the trees, making use of the wood, and replanting.
