Martingrove C.I. is proud to present:
Nuit Blanche: A Night of Shadows

The Martingrove Stage Company is pleased to announce its first annual Nuit Blanche Art Festival. The event will take place on Friday September 30th, from 7-9 PM as a celebratory kick off to the city of Toronto’s Nuit Blanche festival on October 1st. Nuit Blanche, which is French for sleepless night, is an annual art festival that takes place from sunset to sunrise and features over 90 contemporary art projects created and presented by more than 300 local, national, and international artists. The exhibits are situated all over Toronto turning our city into one gigantic art gallery. MCI’s Nuit Blanche: A Night of Shadows will attempt to capture the spirit of the real sleepless night in our two hour gallery showcase of student art. The showcase will feature student artists integrating their own work with the work of others. The night is intended to be an interactive experience as the audience wanders throughout the school to view our exhibits. There will be music, dancing, visual and conceptual art, shadow puppetry, theatre, acrobatics, and more! In addition, we are excited to be hosting guest artists including Ms. Vibert and her senior dance class from Oakwood Collegiate. Concessions will also be available for purchase.

Ms. Keane and Ms. Yarmol, in association with our student artists, would like to invite the parents and students of Martingrove Collegiate to attend this avant-garde event. We hope to see you on the evening of Friday September 30th. For more information, please call 416 394-7110 ext. 20090 or email Ms. Keane at lesley.keane@tdsb.on.ca

Martingrove CI Celebrated its 50th Anniversary
(May 11-14, 2016)

In 1966, Martingrove Collegiate Institute opened its doors. On May 11-14, 2016, we celebrated 50 years of academic, artistic and athletic excellence. The Martingrove 50th Anniversary Reunion Committee worked the past two years to plan a series of events to honour this special occasion.

The reunion festivities began with Athletics Night where alumni participated in basketball, volleyball, and yoga. Another group of Bears dusted off their skates and sticks for a hockey game that took place the same evening at the MasterCard Centre.

Arts Night included musical performances by the Senior Strings Orchestra, Senior Band, and an Alumni Orchestra. The Stage Company and Senior Drama students performed dramatic pieces, and a fantastic art show was available for viewing. The evening was emceed by alumni Steven Woomert, of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and Mark Ellis writer/producer of Flashpoint and X Company.

Friday we gathered at the International Plaza Hotel and Conference Centre for a casual evening of catching up during Pub Night. Over 1200 alumni enjoyed reminiscing with their old friends and former teachers.

Saturday a staff breakfast was organized for current and former staff members. The school opened its doors for an Open House which featured artistic works, decade rooms curated by history students, and various displays throughout the school. During the opening ceremony, speeches were given by Co-Chairs Hugh Anderson and Anne Thomson, Principal Randy Palermo, City of Toronto Councillor Stephen Holyday, TDSB Trustee Chris Glover, and MCIs first ever Student Council President Clifford Leigh-Mossley.

Kudos to Hugh Anderson, Anne Thomson and the MCI Reunion Committee for their outstanding leadership and efforts in planning MCI's 50th Reunion. Please view/click on the photos from this event which are located right beneath the large 50th Reunion Graphic on the Home Page.
