Principal's and V.P.'s Message

Welcome to Roden Public School, a vibrant Kindergarten to Grade 8 (K to 8) school in the heart of the Gerrard and Coxwell neighbourhood (Gerrard India Bazaar). It is with great pleasure that we continue in our roles as Principal and Vice-Principal at Roden, and to be part of such a wonderful school community.
At Roden, we are very proud of our school and the accomplishments of our students and staff. We offer many learning and leadership opportunities, and encourage academic excellence, creative thinking and social development.
Safety and the well-being of the children is our #1 priority and we value a learning environment that is safe, nurturing, positive and respectful.
At Roden, we are committed to equitable and inclusive practice. We value the uniqueness and diversity of our many students and community members, and try our very best to provide a climate of respect and acceptance for everyone.
Parental involvement and community partnerships are vital to ensure student success. Research indicates that academic success begins at home and that students do better in school when parents are actively engaged. We welcome all parents to be active participants in their child’s learning and to take part in the many school events.
Roden has a very active School Council that meets regularly on Wednesday evenings to discuss current educational matters, fundraising events and school related issues. The Council is involved in many day-to-day school activities and they are an integral part of the school’s decision making process. We invite all parents to get involved with the School Council.
The staff at Roden is deeply committed to public education and believes that every child can be successful. We believe that all children can reach high levels of academic achievement within the Ontario Curriculum, and we encourage collaborative communities and cohesive partnerships with students, staff, parents and the community.
We look forward to the many learning opportunities and exciting times that this school year will bring.

Mr. Mark Lasso and Mr. Christopher (Chris) O’Shaughnessy
