Parent/Guardian - Teacher Contact
Parents/Guardians are encouraged to maintain close contact with teachers in order to be well informed about each child's progress. Parents/guardians can expect to be contacted by staff members during the year by phone or in writing. When questions arise, parents/guardians are encouraged to contact the teacher by phone or in writing to make an appointment. Please call (416) 396-2455 to arrange for a mutually convenient meeting time. Please understand that it is difficult for teachers to discuss concerns about individual students during arrival and dismissal times when they are supervising the entire class. If you call to speak with a teacher, please leave a time and number at which you can be reached. Teachers cannot take calls during class time.

Report Cards
Evaluation of student progress is a continuous process. In Grades 1-5, student progress is evaluated on the Ontario Provincial Report Card. Kindergarten students are evaluated using the TDSB Kindergarten Progress Report. Report card dates will be shared with parents/guardians at the beginning of the school year. Parent/Teacher conferences are held for all students in Grades 1-5 in the first term. If you have concerns or questions, please do not wait for the reporting period. Contact the school to speak to your child's teacher as questions or concerns arise.

Volunteers
If you wish to volunteer in the school, please come to the office. We will provide you with information and make an appointment for a short interview in order to match your interests with the needs of the school. A Criminal Record Check is required for all volunteers in TDSB schools. Please do NOT arrange this on your own; CRCs must be submitted to the TDSB for processing with the police. Individually arranged CRCs will not be accepted by the board.

Intergenerational Teaching-Learning Communities (ITLC)
The ITLC Program is a valuable asset to Selwyn School. Once each week for six weeks during the fall and spring terms, a group of Senior volunteers visit our school to teach the Grade 5 students a variety of crafts. During this time, students interact with senior members of our community and learn from them under teacher supervision. Information will be sent home prior to the first visit.Parents want the best education for their children. Our goal is to provide your family with a positive learning environment, with a variety of programs and services that promote outstanding student achievement.

From the TDSB
Parents are children's first and life-long teachers. We value the partnership between home and school and know that parental involvement is the key to success in school. You can be involved by helping your child with homework, volunteering in our school, or joining our school council. By welcoming you and providing opportunities for you to be involved, we can work together to ensure that our students receive the very best education.
