Journals

Journal

The goal of the SOES journal is for students to reflect on their experiences and connect with the natural world both at SOES and in school. We have provided two resources which we hope you will use before, during and after your visit. A small amount of time is needed to construct the journals before you leave for SOES.

1. You will find printable questions for 5 - 10 minute student activities in a Google Slides presentation here. You have two options at this point:

  • you can select specific questions OR print all questions for your class;
  • you have the choice to make a class set that can then be used to make the journals OR you can make the journals using scrap and GOOS (good on one side) paper.

2. You will need about a 30 - 40 minute period during the school day to put together the journal. A Google Slides presentation is available here that explains the materials you'll need with pictures showing how to put together your journal.

Note - if you use scrap/GOOS paper we suggest printing one copy of all student questions to bring with you for prompting students.
Note - we also suggest putting blank pages into your student’s journals so that they can reflect on the day’s activities.
