Inspired by the history of the Toronto area and the First Nations Peoples who live here, students develop a 30-second animated “movie” with narration to allow the exploration of issues related to heritage, identity, and interactions with the global community from the past into the present. Prior to the program, students are required to develop their stories and complete a story board planner (all resources provided by TUSC).

We have a large image library that supports the suggestions in the planning booklet; if you choose to write stories not suggested by our booklet, please have your students collect images (and bring to TUSC on a USB thumb drive/Google Drive) to support their story choice. Students will need three different backgrounds, one for each scene and at least three characters (individual people, animals or objects that can travel across the background). The individual characters should be edited out of the image in which they were originally found.

This program does not have an outdoor component.

Students spend the day in the TUSC IT lab, learning to use Audacity to record their audio, and Frames 6 to create the animation. Both software are part of the Elementary Image found on PCs in your school. The movie will be forwarded to the visiting school electronically, and added to our web site in Student Work.

Please Note: TUSC’s IT Lab is fully accessible for students in wheelchairs; contact TUSC for more information
