By participating in Be a Geographer!, students have an opportunity to (direct connections are shown in bold): 

 

Geography

 

Natural Resources Around the World: Use and Sustainability

  • A1.1 describe various ways in which people have responded to challenges and opportunities ...environment (urban habitat improvement and flood control)
  • A2.2 gather and organize data and information using various technologies on the impact of human activities (primary data collection)
  • A2.3 analyze and construct maps as part of their investigations into the impacts of human activities that change the physical environment (create and analyze thematic maps)

  • During the Be a Geographer program at TUSC, *name* worked as part of a team to investigate and assess the environmental impact of a variety of residential properties. *He/She* used ArcGIS Online to map the results of a survey they conducted and identify specific effects that residential property owners can have on urban water management. *name* also came to a deeper understanding of the role people play as environmental stewards.
