Monday Feb 19 – Family DayThis week, Valley Park is supporting the national campaign of #MYActionsMatter to eliminate/prevent all forms of gender-based violence. This initiative is aligned with the recognition of Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

Gender-based violence is the use and abuse of power and control over another person due to their gender identity, gender expression and perceived gender.

Violence against women and girls is one of the many forms of gender-based violence.  This violence also has an significant impact on LGBTQ2 and gender non-binary people.

We can see the roots of gender-based violence all around us: in sexist jokes that devalue women, the language used in social media messages that objectify women, and in the rigid gender norms imposed on young children.

Valley Park’s campaign is being led in partnership with our Student Council including the use of outdoor signage, interior displays, announcements, lunch-time Kahoot, and a series of student-led activities.

Student Council invites you to consider the five ways in which you can become an ally in our efforts to end gender-based violence.

Listen – be open to learning from the experiences of others.

Believe – support survivors and those affected by violence.

Speak out – add your voice to call out violence.

Intervene – find a safe way to help when you see acts of GBV.

Act – give your time to organizations working to end violence.

We ask that you continue the discussion with your child at home, and even at your workplace, so together we can eliminate Gender-based Violence.

Sincerely,

The Valley Park Student Council

We have set up an online store using entripyshops.com.  This allows parents to purchase specific clothing products, pay for them online and have them delivered directly to your home.
