Gordon Ian Ash

Gord Ash was born on December 20, 1951, in Toronto, Ontario. He attended Vaughan Road Collegiate Institute from 1965-1971 and later went to York University. He graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Sociology. He began his career with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.

In 1978 Gord Ash was employed by the Blue Jays organization in the Ticket Office. In 1979 he was appointed Operations Supervisor, responsible for the day to day supervision of the grounds crew. In 1980 he was promoted to Assistant Director, Operations and his duties expanded to stadium and game day operations. His appointment as Administrator of Player Personnel in the Baseball department occurred in February 1984. His new responsibilities involved minor league contracts and overseeing the operation of the Blue Jays’ minor league teams.

Gord Ash continued his education by attending a Human Resource Management program in 1988 at the University of Michigan and an industrial relations seminar at Queen’s University in 1990. In 1989 Gord Ash was promoted to Assistant General Manager where he was instrumental in the negotiation of major league contracts, he assisted in the daily operation of the major league team, and he was responsible for overseeing the player development department.

On October 14, 1994 Gord Ash was appointed Vice-President and General Manager, one of only four Canadians to become the General Manager of a Major League baseball team. He is a member of the Advisory Board for the Canadian Special Olympics. He was appointed to the position of Executive Vice-President and General Manager in December 1997.
