Student Leadership

Assistant Curriculum Leader: Mr. J. Sabaziotis

Starting in grade 9, students are encouraged to participate in our three level leadership program. Unique to West Humber, this program is designed to provide students with a solid foundation of leadership skills such as team-work, event planning and effective communication.

This program is administered by the Student Leadership Council’s Vice Presidents of Student Leadership Development and Training. They co-ordinate the three level program by training student workshop facilitators and planning and leading after school workshops and our day-long offsite camps.

Leadership skills require opportunities for practice. As students move through the three-level program, they take on more responsibility by facilitating workshops, leading spirit week activities and ultimately developing, preparing and executing a brand-new school event. Beyond the leadership program, students can apply their skills to West Humber’s wide range of clubs and teams. Athletics, music, yearbook, drama, Camp Manitou and the Student Leadership Council are but a few of the offerings. Furthermore, these leadership opportunities provide students with key competencies that foster academic success as well as community engagement through volunteerism, part-time jobs and co-op placements.
