Literacy In The Classroom And Beyond

Literacy

A key area of focus for Anson Taylor's students during 2018/2019  is to improve critical literacy skills through higher-order thinking. Beginning in October 2018, our teaching staff will begin professional learning around comprehensive literacy skills.  Students will be asked to examine and confront bias in texts as a means to analyze, synthesize and evaluate texts.  They will also write about their experiences guided by co-created success criteria and learning goals established as part of the classroom teaching and learning.  Learning to think critically is a skill that will ensure student success and achievement.

Learning Partners

Anson Taylor students have opportunities to share in a variety of activities using our expanding information technology resources. With the portability of 20 IPads, 6 Mac Books and 30 new laptops as additional learning tools in the classroom, students collaborate to expand their understanding of curriculum topics through digital online resources. Our prime fundraising goal is to purchase more technology in the winter of 2017, so that further applications can efficiently and effectively be explored by students within their 'global classroom'. As well, our newly-renovated Common Area offers optimum space and flexibility for paired reading situations, creative dance exercises, drama tasks, cooperative group games and robotics. As learning partners, primary and junior students create artwork together, sing songs, share stories and build cooperative connections through oral, listening, reading and movement participation.
