Performing Arts

Choir:  
Students in Choir perform gospel, secular, pop, classical and world music.  We participate in competitions and trips across the TDSB, as well as school assemblies and productions. Practice is held on Mondays at first lunch and Thursdays 1st and 2nd lunch.  Students that join earn 15% credit towards their music mark. Participation must be the full year to earn credit.  An audition is required to become a member.  Please see Ms. de Fonseka to set up an audition.

Freestyle Ensemble:  
Students in Freestyle Ensemble create their own pieces as a group, using all instruments in the music room, including Djembes and Bucket drums.  Practice is held on Mondays at second lunch, and Wednesdays at 2nd lunch.  Students perform at school assemblies, TDSB music competitions and productions. Students that join earn 15% credit towards their music mark (full year  participation is required).  An audition is required to become a member.  Please see Ms. de Fonseka to set up an audition.

Dance Club:  
Students in Dance Club explore the elements of dance through exploration of  various dance forms and traditions, including Latin Ballroom, Hip Hop and Contemporary Dance.  Practice is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-5 pm.  We perform at school assemblies and compete at the board level. Dance students have the opportunity to work with High Schools within our family of schools, as well as Arts programs across the TDSB. Students that join earn 15% credit towards their dance mark (full year participation is required).  An audition is required to become a member.  Please see Ms. de Fonseka to set up an audition in September.

Hammerband (Violin Ensemble):  
Hammerband is run by Mr. Moshe Hammer & Ross Inglis.  Practice is held on Tuesdays at lunch.  New members must be grade 6 students, or music students with previous experienceare welcome.  Violins are provided by the programme. A deposit is required beforehand.  We perform at various shows across the city.  Students that join earn 15% credit towards their music mark (full year participation required).  Please see Mr. Inglis to join in September.

Guitar Ensemble: 
Guitar Ensemble is our newest musical club.  We play various styles of music and perform at school assemblies   Practice runs Wednesdays at first lunch.  If you have experience, or are new to playing the guitar, you are welcome to join. We provide both acoustic and electric guitars for students to play.  Students earn 15% towards their music mark (full year participation is required).   An audition is required to become a member.  Please see Ms. de Fonseka to set up an audition.

Tabla Ensemble:  

Students learn to play traditional tabla playing structures and rhythms.  We will be performing at TDSB music competitions and school assemblies.  Students earn 15% towards their music mark (full year participation is required).   An audition is required to become a member.  Please see Ms. de Fonseka to set up an audition. 

Cuban & Brazilian Percussion Ensemble 
Students will learn Latin rhythms using the Conga, Cajon, Timbales and other Latin percussion.  Students earn 15% towards their music mark (full year participation is required).  An audition is required to become a member.  Please see Ms. de Fonseka to set up an audition in April.

Keyboarding Lab: New! 
Students learn piano basics and techniques.  Students learn classical and popular songs, as well as compose music using the Garage Band app. Please see your Core Teacher to book a space with your class

New this year:  
Thanks to our friends at Jazz FM91, our school is the proud recipient of much needed band instruments from the Holiday Heroes program.  These instruments will fill gaps in our instrumental program, and help students gain further proficiency in Music.
