Back to School - September 7, 2022

Back to School - September 2021

Hello Elmbank Junior Middle Academy Community.

The start date for school this year was Thursday, September 9.

Our start time for all students is 8:35 am. We suggest all students are on-site at 8:30 to join their class in line.

All students must show their Student Health Pass each morning. Elmbank staff will check that Parents/Guardians have checked to see that their children are safe to come to school. If they are sick or show COVID 19 symptoms, they should remain at home, get a COVID 19 test, and make sure they are COVID-free.

Our Recess and Lunchtimes have changed to accommodate fewer students outside at the same time and maintain their class cohorts.

Classes: K1, K2, 1, 1/2, 2/3, 4/5 - recess from 10:15-10:45 am & lunch from 12:15-1:05 pm.

Classes 6, 6/7, 8, MID, DD have recess from 10:45-11:15 am & lunch from 1:05-1:55 pm.

Community Messages so far this year:

Elmbank Community Message                                                   September 5, 2021

Good evening Elmbank Community. This is a message from your friendly, neighbourhood Principal and Vice-Principal, Mr. George and Ms. Papia.

We hope you are having a wonderful Labour Day Weekend, and you have been safe and happy during the summer holidays. School is around the corner, remember that school opens on Thursday, September 9 for all students. In-Person students should be on-site  at 8:30 am to line up in their classes. There are a few things to remind you of as we begin to look to our start of the year.

  • Line up, Pick up, and Entry Doors
  • Remember to visit the TDSB Website at – www.tdsb.on.ca for up to date information.
  • Today, please carefully read the other attachment with an update from the TDSB regarding school opening.
  • The safety of our students and staff is most important during these times. The TDSB has followed the direction of Toronto Public Health and the Ministry of Education, and each school has clear safety guidelines to ensure the safety of all students and staff in the school. Like last year, Parents/Guardians complete the Student Self-Assessment at home either through the Health Assessment App, or by signing the Self-Assessment sheet that will be sent home. When students arrive, they will answer the question, 'Are you well?', then they will show the Self-Assessment sheet.  If the Self-Assessment sheet is not signed by Parents/Guardians and shown to the Greeters (Mr. Malhotra, Mr. McAffee and Ms. Oshodin), we will need to call home to verify that you have completed the Self-Assessment.
  • Please make sure to practice putting on your child’s face mask, washing hands for 20 seconds, using hand sanitizer, and maintaining safe distance from others to help avoid the spread of the virus.
  • Virtual Classes – All students (Kindergarten to Grade 12) enrolled in TDSB's Virtual School will use Brightspace, a learning management system provided to all Ontario school districts by the Ministry of Education (Google Classroom is available as well). Students login to Brightspace with their TDSB email address and password to access announcements from their teacher, view class calendar information, access learning materials, submit assignments and add to their digital portfolio. Brightspace will also be available to all parents/guardians to provide a window into your child’s classroom to view upcoming events, portfolio items, grades and other information. Remember to review the TDSB Codes of Conduct:   Online Code of Conduct Virtual School Online Code of Conduct
  • Only students in our ISP classes who are virtual students will engage in synchronous learning so they will participate in real time with their homeroom class. More information will be coming soon.
  • Device Pick-up - 30 Elmbank students let us know they need devices.                 Pick up devices from Elmbank on Tuesday, September 7th, from 12-3pm.
  • Construction near Elmbank – there is lots of construction around Elmbank. Please remember to take your time, be safe, and obey all signs. Stay tuned!!

We ask all Parents/Guardians to wear a mask when on school property, drop students in the correct line, then move away from other students and families. Also, adults, please only enter the school through the front door; BUZZ 1st!!

All students who are attending Virtual School will receive communication from the school by the end of the day on September 8th. The TDSB is using a HUB Model for virtual classes, so students will be supported by teachers from local schools. This means that some Elmbank students will be attached to other local schools for virtual classes, such as Braeburn, North Kipling, Pelmo Park, Greenholme, Humberwood Downs, and Albion Heights; don’t worry, you still belong to Elmbank, but the virtual school will support you during the school year. Messages will come from these schools shortly.

Please know that we are taking your child’s learning, safety, and well-being seriously. If there are questions, please contact us at Elmbank – 416 394 7560, or by email.

Be Well. Stay Safe. Be Blessed. Get your Vaccine!

Elmbank Thunder Are All Back!!

So far, all staff and students have been adhering to all Safety Protocols, and we have to continue these safe behaviours. These include:

All Students and Staff wearing a Mask when in the building

All Parents, when on school property for pick up/drop off must wear a mask

Practice Physical Distancing

Washing hands regularly

Using Hand-Sanitizer

  • Please continue to sign the Student Daily Health Pass sheet at home, and send it with your child for the teacher to check. We always do a Check-In at the door, but if you don't send the form for the school to see, we will need to call you in the day to make sure the check at home was done.

  • All students received a Verification Form to make sure we have the correct information and contacts for Parents/Guardians. Please review the verification form, sign your name at the bottom of the page, and return it to your child's teacher by Tuesday, Sept. 31, 2021.

  • Nutrition Program - As you know, Elmbank provides a small, nutritious snack for each child at school each day. That makes 20 snacks per child per month. To help cover the cost, we ask all families to donate $10 per month to cover the snack costs at the school. That would be a total of $80 for the year.
  • The website to register is:https://tfss.ca/and a sample of the website you see is below. You are also able to claim a Tax Receipt if you complete the form at the bottom of the webpage.

Please make sure that if your child is showing any symptoms of COVID-19 (cough, fever, difficulty breathing, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of taste or smell, runny nose, or red eyes) please keep your child at home. If your child comes to school showing any of these symptoms, we will take them to the Wellness Centre, call you, the Parent/Guardian, and ask you to pick them up and take them home. According to Toronto Public Health, your child will need to stay at home for 14 days.

To keep our children safe, we want to avoid having visitors and parents in the school. Always buzz at the front door. We will meet you at the front door and complete the self-assessment. You will leave your child's lunch inside the door. Try your best to provide your child with a lunch so they can stay on school property.
