February

Greetings Crerar Families,

During the month of February, the TDSB proudly recognizes African Heritage (Black History) Month. It is an occasion to celebrate the many achievements and contributions of peoples of African descent to Canada and the world. The chosen theme for 2023-2024 is Our Black Is...  There will also be a Black Heritage Month Reception at the Ward 17 Budget Forum. Please click here for details:  Ward 17 Budget Forum and Black Heritage Month ReceptionThe TDSB also proudly recognizes Chinese Heritage Month in February each year. During this month, several learning resources and educational opportunities will be provided to our students and staff to further enhance their knowledge of Chinese heritage.

We had a great turnout to our amazing Parent Math Workshop co-led by TDSB Math Coaches, Gail Bedeau and Uloma Onyido. Thank you to our Parent Council who provided breakfast!

To foster joy in reading with your child, I would also like to invite parents/guardians every Monday from 11:50 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. to our Library starting on February 5th to March 25th to participate in read-alouds with your child. This work is supported by General Crerar Staff, Salwa Mohiuddin (our Speech and Language Pathologist), and Donna Cardoza (Community Support Worker). School-home partnerships are necessary for developing strong literacy skills. Please join us.

Building Mathematical Minds Part 1 takes place virtually on Wednesday, February 7th, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. The Building Mathematical Minds presentation will provide parents/caregivers with strategies to make learning math at home a positive experience for everyone. Parents/caregivers will be able to understand the math their children are learning at school, learn different ways to approach a math problem and feel more confident in supporting their children with their homework. Please register for the session

A friendly reminder that Parent-Teacher Conferences for some students will take place the evening of February 15 and the morning of February 16. As you know, the best person to connect with about your child's education at any time is their classroom teacher. Please reach out to them by email or phone and arrange to speak with them about any questions you may have.

Our next School Council meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 8. For those unable to join in person, here is the link to join virtually: Click here to join the meeting. A lot is happening in February. General Crerar is thrilled to also share that we will be having a Winter Concert! This will be a night of performances put on by some of our classes. Please secure the evening of February 28 for this event. Please see below:

With the winter weather, we are seeing a rise in late arrivals. Students are encouraged to be on time for school (8:45 a.m. start time with supervision available in the yard by 8:30 a.m.). Being on time for the first period sets the tone for the rest of the day where their mind is at ease and ready for learning.

It is always a pleasure to serve the Crerar Community.

Warmest Regards,

Ms. Lin
