Scholastic Book Fair A Huge Success!

Thank you to our students, staff and Mackie community for your generous support of our Book Fair this year!  We were only open for 3 days and yet we made record-breaking sales.  We sold $2,693.95 worth of total sales with net sales of $2,505.37.  This enabled us to acquire  $1,251.40 worth of new books for our school!  Thank you Ms. Gibbs and Kienan, Mrs. Kirkpatrick and Ethan, Mrs. Datta, Ms. Morrison, Mrs. Dainard and Mrs. Shakyaver for your assistance in running the Book Fair!  Special thanks to Ms. Harley and Mekhi, too!  We couldn't have done it without you!

Learning Commons Team (L.C.T.)

The L.C.T. is a group of responsible junior students who keep our Learning Commons organized by re-shelving books during lunchtime so that students and staff may easily locate the books they need.  These students will also participate in other activities such as making posters to promote reading and the Book Fair.  The students were treated to a luncheon, along with the Office Helpers, back in December in appreciation of their hard work.  Thank you to all of our L.C.T. members!

George P. Mackie Jr. Virtual Library Website

The George P. Mackie Virtual Library website has been created by the Toronto District School Board for all elementary and secondary schools. It contains educational resources with links to the Ontario Curriculum, and it has valuable links for parents, too!

Once the Google Chrome browser is launched at school, Academic Workspace appears.  Students simply click on the "Virtual Library" button on the sidebar and the School Virtual Library Home Page is loaded.  It is the landing site and the starting point for all research and online learning at school. The grade 3-6 students use this site when learning new research skills in the Learning Commons for their assignments, projects, and personal interest.

The George P. Mackie Virtual Library website is bursting with current information and rich media on a plethora of topics to engage students and promote learning.

Click on the "Library" button on the home page of our School Website to access the Virtual Library.
