Principal's Message

Principal's Message

In order to promote students’ success, we provide a nurturing, welcoming and safe place for your children to learn. Your involvement and support are important as we work together to ensure the success of your children. As a community school, we are sensitive to the needs of all children and adults. Gosford represents a rich diversity of cultural backgrounds that are recognized, respected and valued.

We believe that the Arts (dance, drama, visual arts, music) play an important role in the curriculum. Literacy and numeracy skills can be enhanced by focussing on the Arts. Through the Arts, students can develop self-confidence/discipline, become more focussed, and have their cultural norms validated.

At Gosford we believe that a strong foundation in Literacy is the basis for future academic success. As an Early Years Literacy Project school teachers gain the tools and expertise to assess students’ reading abilities, guided reading sessions provide students with reading strategies and tutoring at their instructional level. As we enter the fourth year of the project, we anticipate that students will continue to make strong gains in reading. As a school community, we are committed to fully implementing all components of the project. We believe this will ensure that our students realize the core goals of the Toronto District School Board’s Mission.

“Our mission is to enable all students to reach high levels of achievement and to acquire the knowledge, skills and values they need to become responsible members of a democratic society.”

We want you and your child to enjoy what Gosford has to offer. Get involved, participate and become an integral part of the school.

Sincerely

Principal
