PLEASE HELP US SAVE THE ITINERANT MUSIC PROGRAM! Featured Article

Dear John G. Althouse Middle School Community,

The Toronto District School Board Trustees have been tasked with providing a balanced budget and the Itinerant Music Program is in danger of being cut.

All students at John G. get the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, either strings or band, throughout grades 6, 7 and 8. The students are taught by Itinerant Music Instructors, who are extremely talented professional musicians contracted by the TDSB each year.

A 24% cut to the IMI Program has been proposed. The proposed cuts include elimination of some programs, program hours and reductions in others. Despite the cuts and budget not yet being approved, the process used to determine scheduling for the next school year has already been suspended by the TDSB pending budget approval.

For the first time in over 25 years, students and staff are going into the summer months without an idea of what the timetable schedule will look like for the following year or whether quality instrumental music instruction will even continue to be offered in our school in 2019/2020.

As members of our community who understand the importance of this program, we are asking you to do the following:

  1. Sign the petition against the IMI cuts:Please Rally To Save TDSB Itinerant Music Program 2019
