Leadership Program

Overview of Martingrove Collegiate's Leadership Program

Ever since it began in 2007, the Martingrove CI Leadership Program has been dedicated to helping the students at Martingrove reach their full potential. The leadership program aims to help build the MCI community through a wide range of inclusive programming for all students. It's where memories and everlasting friendships are created, and has consistently been the highlight of many students’ high school careers. The Motto of the program is “Risk, Learn, Grow.”

The Leadership program allows students to take risks, learn, and grow as individuals through fun games and activities throughout the year, and up at camp. We hold a camp reunion breakfast, training sessions and group events at the school as we lead up to camp.  Currently there are 2 camps developed by the school that occur annually, the Grade 10 Leadership Camp in the Fall, and the Grade 9 Leadership Camp in the Spring.

The week-long Fall Camp up at Manitou is one of the hallmarks of the program, designed to help Grade 10 students build their leadership potential. Skill building groups, seminars, and outdoor activities coordinated and facilitated by both trained senior students and staff are some of the features of this exciting camp opportunity.

The Leadership program makes such a huge impact on Martingrove students that our alumni are still a part of the community through the MCI Leadership Facebook page

Grade 9 Leadership Camp at Mono Cliffs Outdoor Education Centre

Martingrove holds its Grade 9 Camp at Mono Cliffs each Spring, catering to approximately 50 students. The camp itself offers full accommodations and meals. In small groups led by older students, students at Mono Cliffs are able to participate in fun, team-building activities and games, which emphasize teamwork, communication and cooperation. These tasks involve goals that can be reached only if students work together and listen to one another.

These games help let students take risks and step out of their comfort zones, improving their trust not only with others, but also with themselves. At the end of the three day camp, students will have made many new friends and memories, which will last throughout their high school career. Grade 10 Leadership Camp at Manitou

Martingrove’s biggest camp is located in Parry Sound at Camp Manitou. The 5 day event is held in September and includes accommodations and meals for the Grade 10 campers. The camp fully accommodates Grade 10 campers and 80 leaders, making it one of the largest and most memorable events Martingrove holds. The camp itself is organized by students from Grades 11-12 who work together with teachers to develop fun activities for campers to participate in, such as archery, arts and crafts, and rock climbing.

Students are separated into different colour groups and spend the days doing activities with their colour. This way students can get to know other students and older leaders. They spend the week doing different activities with their colour groups. The tasks emphasize cooperation and campers learn to trust each other as well as take risks outside of an educational environment. It teaches students to have fun, but also to learn more about themselves while getting to know others from the school. There are also activities that everyone at the camp participates in together such as a talent show, meals, and a campfire.

The campers will be sleeping in cabins with boys on one side of the camp and girls on the other. Colour groups will sleep and eat meals together. By the end of camp, students will have learned a new sense of belonging and made lots of new friends.
