Mock OSSLT
On Wednesday October 25, 2017, MCI administered the Mock OSSLT Test for all students who are writing this year’s Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test on April 10, 2018.
All Grade 10 students and those students who were previously eligible but have not yet written the test or who were unsuccessful on their first attempt wrote the test. Writing the Mock OSSLT provides students with the following supports:
- This is an excellent opportunity for students to attempt reading and writing questions which are based on prior OSSLT’s, in a simulated standardized test environment. The OSSLT is a required graduation component for all students.
- All practice tests will be marked and returned to students by mid-November. You will be sent a letter with your child’s results if they are unsuccessful. In order to pass the OSSLT they require a mark of 70% or higher. These practice tests results give a clear indication of areas of strength and areas for improvement for each student.
- If students are unsuccessful, then they will have an opportunity to attend extra help sessions in order to improve for the real test in April. A letter with the extra help options will arrive with the results.
- In order to improve your child’s reading and writing skills which will benefit them in all aspects of their life there are several strategies that can be used outside of the school day. These strategies include daily silent reading from a variety of sources (at least 30 minutes) and discussing reading material with family and friends. The best way for your child to improve their literacy skills is to read independently regularly. We have a wonderful learning commons here at MCI for your child to access.
