Dear Parkdale Families,

Lots of energy and excitement this week, both inside and out!  So now it’s November, and the weather has turned. With the colder weather, we’d like to remind families to label hats, gloves, boots, etc. so that if lost, these items can be easily identified and returned. Please note that students are expected to go outside during recess unless the temperature goes below -22 degrees Celsius. Keep in mind, we have lots of extra winter jackets for anyone in need.

This week, the playground painters got to work. As a result, our yard has really come alive with colour and action. With these new activities along with our OPAL program, we are hopeful that recess time will be a more positive one for all.

Recess time is a great time for students to get fresh air, get active and learn to socialize positively with peers. Unfortunately, there has been an increase in incidents where children are having conflicts with one another and resorting to some sort of physical aggression (kicking, pushing, hitting) to solve the problem. We need help. Putting hands on others cannot be a solution. Please reinforce this message at home. At school, we talk about using your words, taking space, taking deep breaths, counting to ten, putting your hands in your pockets and seeking an adult to help with solving the problem. We have been talking to classes about this and students know these strategies. The challenge is to have them practice them more regularly. With parents speaking to their children about this, it will make the message consistent and clear.

Parkdale PS Annual Winter Fair

It's time again to get organized for our school's awesome Winter Fair!  Save the date for Saturday Dec 7th and join us for a day of family activities, live entertainment, tasty food and community-building.

A rock solid team has started to plan the day and we're looking for volunteers to help make it a success. Want to help showcase our local musicians and authors?  Feeling the urge to run a few arts and crafts?  Have an idea on how to celebrate just how amazingly diverse our school is with a group art project?  Interested in joining the silent auction crew or bake sale masters?  We'd love to hear from you!

If you'd like to get involved either as a co-lead or team member to help plan a small part of the event, have a new idea that you want to try, want to help out on the day, or volunteer in another way, please reach out to Christine Olsen at parkdaleparentcouncil@gmail.com.

Roncy Parent Night Out:
