RAPT School Council

RAPT - School Council

RAPT SC

When Parents/Guardians get involved in their child's school life, the opportunities for growth and achievement within the classroom and school community improve. From increased student success, to enhancing experiences within the school day, your involvement makes a direct and valuable difference.

Normally, there are many ways to get involved in your child's school life. They can include anything from volunteering on school field trips, to co-coaching a school sports team, and helping to organize school events, such as school dances and fundraisers. Your experiences, opinions, and voice are also powerful contributions, so feel free to attend regularly scheduled RAPT meetings throughout the year. They can give you the opportunity to be a part of a team of parents, community members, teachers, and administrators dedicated to ensuring our students have rich and enjoyable teaching and learning experiences.

What is the purpose and function of the School Council?

The School Council is a mandatory advisory body for schools across Ontario. The purpose of a School Council is to improve student achievement and to enhance the accountability of the education system to parents (Reg. 612/2.1) through the active participation of parents.

School council membership consists of:

  • parents
  • teacher(s)
  • Principal/Vice Principal
  • support staff
  • community representative(s)
  • representative from the Ontario Home and School Association, if such a group exists in the school. (Reg. 612/3.8)

The School Council advises the Principal and the Board on a variety of issues and activities relating to student achievement, curriculum goals and priorities, school budget priorities, school safety, renovation plans, after school activities, and criteria for selection of new principals.
