Silverthorn Collegiate Institute – School Advisory Council

January 17, 2023 at 7pm

Semi-formal – in November – had over 160 students, was a huge success
Door decorations before the holidays – 2 winners, 1 junior class and 1 senior
Spirit week in December (spartan day, twin day, anything but a backpack, pj day, cutoff short day). Also treats, candy canes, photo booth

Making exam schedule more simple this time (P1 classes on 25th, P2 on 26, and so on)
Moratorium starts this thursday
Culminating activities are wrapping up
Mr. Iskandar is doing an exam seminar with helpful tips for students. He will run 3x,and will run approximately 30 minutes. Running one in the morning, one at lunch and one after school. (ie, get a good night sleep, bring a bottle of water, do what you know, skip what you don’t know and then come back to it, plus tips on how exam is weighted). The 3 workshops will run on Thursday, January 19th.
Everyone gets 30 minutes extra for each exam, IEP students 45 minutes total extra.

This Thursday & Friday for grade 9 Math students taking math this semester. Semester 2 grade 9 math students take EQAO in Spring.

Current VPś in a pool for advancement + Principals who want to transfer can be selected for Principal of SCI
Many factors to consider, including location and school needsSchool Council chair, Adriana Arévalo, will meet with Superintendent to discuss school needs for new Principal
Mr. Iskandar leaves Silverthorn on Jan 31st
Next Board meeting is Feb 1st, so the new Principal will not be announced before then.
On January 30th there will be Öpen Doors: 1-6 Community Drop-In to say Farewell to Mr. Iskandar. Light refreshments will be provided.
