Learning Strategies (GLE) is open to any student with an IEP. The purpose of the course varies depending on the grade level at which it is offered.

At the grade 9 and 10 levels, the course teaches organization skills, time management skills, study skills, research skills, reading comprehension strategies, note-taking strategies, writing skills, inter-personal communication skills, advocacy skills and the theory of multiple intelligences.

In both courses, there is a special emphasis on preparation for the grade 10 EQAO literacy test (the OSSLT) as well as homework support each period.

At the grade 11 level, the course includes the homework support but focuses the curricular time on the text The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens as a way of having our students move toward self management and their role as an adult in society. Time management and organization remain highly important and are reviewed consistently throughout the program.

At the grade 12 level, students continue to receive homework support while the curriculum focuses on students preparing an exit strategy so that our graduates are prepared for their post secondary life.

Regardless of which of the four paths available they choose to follow, our students learn self-advocacy skills, resume writing, interview skills, the High Five principles, inter-personal communication, application writing, and are exposed to a variety of information regarding college and university programs and expectations through our research assignments.
