Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)

Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)

During the 2023/24 academic year, the OSSLT (Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test) will be administered during two timeframes: the month of November for first semester, and between March 20 to April 24, 2024 for second semester.

Please note that with the release of the new Ontario language curriculum, the OSSLT practice test is in the process of being updated. The new practice test will be released in early fall 2023.

Current Grade 10, 11 and non-graduating Grade 12 students are required to write and pass this test to graduate.  This year, students can opt to take the Ontario Literacy Course (OLC) if they do not wish to write the test, but this is a full-semester course and students are being encouraged to consider this course as an option only if they do not pass the OSSLT.

Only those students who are enrolled in an ENG course in semester one are writing the OSSLT within the November timeframe; students who are enrolled in their ENG course in semester 2 will write their test during the second time frame of March 20 to April 24, 2024.

Students will receive support from their ENG teacher and other support staff prior to the writing of the test.  However, you can also support your child by encouraging them to engage with the preparatory material available to them through their online ENG classes.  In addition to preparatory material, a link to a practice test is also available on the EQAO website or through your child's ENG teacher.

Please know we are doing all we can to ensure your child's success on this test.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me directly at stephanie.hayden@tdsb.on.ca.
