GYMNASTICS/CLIMBERS AT YORKVIEW P.S.

The ‘Gymnastics & Climbers Unit’ will be starting at Yorkview P.S. following the March Break, (Mon., March 23 - Thurs., April 9, 2020).  We will be engaging in physical activities on mats and larger equipment (i.e., climber, ropes, low balance beams and jumping off boxes). We are fortunate to have a lot of gymnastics equipment and staff to ensure the safety of your child during this unit.

We would like every child to review the rules of HPE conduct with his/her parents/guardians, as it will help him/her better understand the importance we stress on safety.

Throughout the year, staff have worked diligently to provide students with a variety of experiences to establish safety routines and promote cooperation and good sportsmanship.  Within all of our units, the students have been presented with many opportunities to develop their individual skill level, share their accomplishments and experience the satisfaction of teamwork in a safe and non-threatening atmosphere.

The BLUE PHYSICAL EDUCATION INFORMATION AND PERMISSION FORM that was signed and returned at the beginning of the school year gives your child permission to participate. (You will be informed if Mrs Karailiadis does not have your blue permission form on file and another form will be sent home to be signed).

Student Expectations for Gymnastics/Climbers:

  1. No jewelry, loose clothing, skirts, dresses, tights or leggings

  2. Must wear t-shirt and shorts

  3. Must have bare feet

  4. Long hair must be tied back

  7. Inversions on the climbing equipment are not allowed

  8. Students must land on their FEET or BOTTOM on the crash mat

  9. Dive rolls, flips and/or handsprings and pyramid building are not allowed

GYMNASTICS/CLIMBERS DAYS:_________________________

The H.P.E. Board provides information to Yorkview students and families about upcoming events, schedules, athletics and intramurals. Permission forms will also be made available in a folder attached to the Board. The H.P.E. Board is situated in front of the Small Gym.

Blue H.P.E. Permission Forms:

Parent(s)/Guardian(s), please ensure your child returns his/her completed and signed Blue H.P.E. permission form. Extra copies will be made available on the H.P.E. Board.

What are 'Intramurals'?:

At Yorkview P.S., Intramurals are optional sporting activities that are played in the Yorkview Gym during recesses. If students are interested, they can pick up an Intramural sign-up form on the H.P.E. Board and submit a team for the various Intramurals offered. During the fall season, Primary Indoor Soccer Intramurals take place for students in Grades 1 to 3. During the winter season, Junior Floor Hockey Intramurals take place for students in Grades 4 and 5. Taking part in Intramurals is a great way to have fun, stay active and demonstrate leadership skills. Information about upcoming intramurals and how to submit a team will be given during H.P.E. classes. Schedules will be posted on the H.P.E. Board and games will be announced during the morning announcments.

Community Coaches:

If any parents or guardians are interested in helping coach a Yorkview team, please see Mrs. Karailiadis to find out when the upcoming Community Coaching Certification sessions will be taking place. Attending a session will enable you to receive your Community Coaching Card that is FREE and valid FOREVER.

Thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the H.P.E. program or intramurals, please contact Mrs. Karailiadis at (416) 395-2980.
