Models Schools for Inner City (MSIC)

What is a model school?

A Model School is one of 150 schools as determined by the Toronto District School Board’s (TDSB)Learning Opportunities Index (LOI). The Model Schools for Inner Cities program is fundamentally rooted in a strength-based approach aimed at increasing access and opportunities for all students. When students, teachers, families and communities work collaboratively to create positive change, student achievement, well-being and engagement are increased.

Model Schools are supported by their Learning Centre Centrally Assigned principal, community support workers and learning coaches.

Our Community Support Worker at Joseph Brant is Donna Cardoza.  She has an entire bulletin board housed in our main office which is dedicated to our ongoing efforts to work with our community.

Donna's role as CSW is to develop, nurture and strengthen the relationships between school, home and the community.  This means walking alongside students, parents, guardians and educators to support the achievement and well-being of all students, with the support of community partners.

As a parent, she always valued trusting and caring relationships with the educators in her children's school.  Donna wants to build these relationships here at Joseph Brant as well.  Your voice is welcomed as Donna values your collaboration.  Please contact the school should you wish to reach out to Donna personally.

Recent events at Brant include our winter clothing drive along with a monthly meeting series called: Share and Hear.  This is a support group for parents with special needs.  It is not limited to the Joseph Brant community, but is connected to Eastview PS, St. Margaret's PS, Galloway Road PS.  Please visit the CSW Hub which contains a whole host of information and resources.
