Beginning on September 1, 2024, the Ministry of Education has provided new direction around cell phone and mobile device use in all ontario schools. By reducing the distraction of cell phones and mobile devices, together we can create more focused and engaging learning environments for students. Learn more at

As per PPM128, no personal mobile devices shall be used by students at joseph brant during the instructional day. In our k-8 school that means students are not to use any personal mobile device throughout the day, including cell phones, smart watches, or tablets. If they bring the device to school, it must remain turned off, out of sight and not in use for the duration of the school day.
Progressive discipline will be used in determining consequences for not following the tdsb's cell phone policy at joseph brant, beginning with a warning, but may proceed to having the device taken, being sent to the office, involving parents/caregivers or suspension.
In line with the Ministry of Education’s PPM 128, students are responsible for their personal mobile devices, including how they are used and any consequences resulting from misuse. TDSB schools and staff are not responsible or liable for any damage or loss that may occur to devices that are placed in storage due to a violation of school policy.
