Meet Newtonbrook's Amazing Dance Team

Recently the Newtonbrook Dance Team traveled to London, Ontario, to compete in a province-wide dance competition called Shooting Stars.  Many schools and students from across the province competed in a variety of dance forms. Newtonbrook was the only TDSB school in attendance and they did our school board proud.

After a series of exemplary performances, Newtonbrook’s team took home 12 trophies from only six dance routines.  Two separate Judge’s Choice awards were given for “Excellent Intention & Focus” and the team was honoured with “The Total Package” award for best choreography, emotion and performance technique.  All routines either earned highest to second highest scores.  In addition, they won four Overall Best Group awards, two highest Overall Marks and were distinguished with the “Best Overall School in Choreography” award.

Most importantly, the team was given the coveted “Perform, Create, Grow” award for winning the admiration of both the judges and their fellow competitors.  This prestigious award is given to the teacher and school that exhibits enthusiasm, spirit, support for others, and exceptional sportsmanship.

The team would like to thank all of the students, teachers and administration at Newtonbrook Secondary School who supported them with their fundraiser initiatives.

The team ended their successful year by performing in the Canada’s National Ballet School’s Sharing Dance Day at Yonge and Dundas Square.  It has been a truly memorable season.

French Language Courses for Adults through the TDSB

Government numbers provided to CBC show the number of adults learning French as a second language throughout the province is steadily rising — and hit more than 4,000 learners last year. The TDSB is hoping to open more weekend programs in the fall in response to the rising demand.  For more information, please read the article below.
