Walk to School Wednesdays

children go to school

Students are being encouraged to walk to school every Wednesday. Not driving to school gives you healthy exercise and reduces the pollution from cars to let us all breathe easier. Riding your bike, running, skipping and using your scooter are all great ways to get to school. Let’s see if Norman Ingram is up for this challenge!  For the month of May and June we will be keeping a tally to see which students walk to school the most.  At the end of the year students will be recognized for their accomplishment.

Staples Brigade

staples logoWe currently partner with Staples and TerraCycle to recycle our used writing instruments to reduce the amount of waste we are sending to the landfills.   We will be recycling pens, mechanical pencils, highlighters, sharpies, markers, and white board markers.  For every Sharpie, Paper Mate, Expo and Uni-ball product received TerraCycle will donate $0.02 to Earth Day Canada.  We encourage all families to also recycle these items from home by taking them to any Staples store.  These writing instruments will be turned into new Rubbermaid products!

Drink Pouch Brigade

terracycle Every year MILLIONS of drink pouches end up in dumpsters and landfills across Canada. For the last three years Norman Ingram has been saving juice pouches and sending them to TerraCycle to hgave them recycled into other porducts. TerraCycle and Kool-Aid are working together to put an end to this awful loss of resources. The TerraCycle Drink Pouch Brigade program allows us to save drink pouches from taking up space in landfills. For each Drink Pouch that we collect and send, TerraCycle gives us two TerraCycle points ($.02) which can be redeemed for payment toward any non-profit, school, or charity of our choice!

Bottle Cap Collection

bottle capsThis year we have started to collect bottle caps of all sizes and colours. Our plan is to collect as many as possible and turn them into an art installation we can be proud of. By collecting these bottle caps we are also preventing them from ending up in our landfills. This masterpiece will take time to complete so we will be collecting caps for the rest of this year and all of next year!
