Dear Parents and Guardians of Grade 8 students,
It is that time of year that everyone has been anticipating since September! The Grade 8 Awards Assembly, Graduation Ceremony and Dinner & Dance are finally here. Please read the information below and sign the appropriate tear off portion at the bottom which needs to be returned to Winona by June 17th, 2014.
Grade 8 Awards Assembly
The Grade 8 Awards Assembly will take place on the morning of Monday, June 23rd, at 9:00 a.m. in the Winona gymnasium. At this time, honour roll certificates and homeroom awards will be presented. Report cards for Grade 8 students will be distributed at the conclusion of the morning. Parents and families are welcome to attend this event.
Following the Awards Assembly, the graduates-to-be will walk to Vaughan Road Academy for the ceremony rehearsal, accompanied by Winona staff. Students will be dismissed for lunch at the conclusion of the rehearsal; with parental permission, they have the option of being dismissed from Vaughan Road. Staff will accompany students who are returning to the school.
The Graduation Ceremony will be held from 5:00pm – 6:30pm on Monday, June 23rd at Vaughan Road Academy in the Auditorium. The address is 529 Vaughan Road. Please note, there is a parking lot at the rear of the building (with limited space) and street parking is also available. Grade 8 graduates are asked to arrive at Vaughan Road by 4:30 p.m. To ensure all graduates are able to have their loved ones attend the ceremony, invitations to attend are limited to 2 guests per graduating student due to limited seating. Please call or email Mr. Leibovitch or Ms. Mediratta if you have any specific seating or accessibility requirements for the ceremony.
Dinner & Dance Celebration
Immediately following the ceremony, graduates are invited to attend a celebration of dining and dancing at Europa Banquet Hall (1407 Dundas Street West near Dundas and Dufferin). School bus transportation has been arranged for the graduates and will depart from Vaughan Road no later than 7:00pm. The evening will conclude at 10:00 p.m.
The bus drop off is at Winona Drive by 10:30 p.m. Supervision is provided by Winona staff. Parent/guardians are responsible for picking up their child at 10:30 p.m. at the school. You can also arrange for your own transportation to and from Europa if you would like. Please indicate your preference at the bottom of this letter.
The cost of evening celebration is $35 per student. The ticket price covers the cost of a sit down dinner and the D.J. for entertainment. Students must pre-order their ticket, as there will not be any last minute additions to the party. Please indicate any dietary needs that catering would need to be aware of. Please bring your form and money in on time.
Payment (cash only) along with the completed “tear-off” below is due to the office by Tuesday, June 17th We are looking forward to a great evening!

WINONA WATCH STUDENT NEWSPAPER!
We are pleased to share with you our most recent, fresh and hot-off-the-press copy of the Winona Student Newspaper, The Winona Watch. The students have been working very hard on their final edition and are very proud of the hard work they have put into this project. We congratulate them, along with their supervisory teacher for their talent and invested time that went into this piece. We would also like to thank the Parent Council for their support and financial contribution in helping to print the final copies that were distributed to the students at school today.
