Avondale Elementary Alternative School and Avondale Public School OPEN HOUSE

Welcome to Avondale Schools!

Nestled in the heart of the Avondale community, our school proudly serves families from a rich diversity of linguistic, cultural, and lived-experience backgrounds. We celebrate the enthusiasm, creativity, and unique perspectives that our students bring to our learning community each day, and we are committed to fostering a culture of belonging where every child is supported to learn, grow, and thrive.

As a walkable neighbourhood school, Avondale encourages families to choose active transportation whenever possible. Walking, biking, or rolling to and from school promotes healthy lifestyles, supports environmental sustainability, and helps strengthen our commitment to being an environmentally responsible school community (not to mention it takes to pressures of the traffic congestion at drop off and pick up). To ensure the safety of all students and families during arrival and dismissal times, we kindly ask everyone to:
  • Respect all posted parking signs and traffic regulations.
  • Avoid blocking driveways, intersections, or designated crossing areas.
  • Consider walking, cycling, or carpooling whenever possible.
Together, we can create a safer, greener, and more connected community for all. At the heart of our school culture are the Avondale Agreements, our shared commitments that guide how we learn, interact, and care for one another. These agreements help foster a welcoming, respectful, inclusive, and safe environment where everyone belongs:
  • Be Kind – Treat others with kindness, empathy, and respect.
  • Take Responsibility – Make thoughtful choices and learn from mistakes.
  • Stand Up for What's Right – Speak up, seek help, and support others when needed.
  • Celebrate Differences – Value and appreciate the diversity that strengthens our community.
  • Be Safe Online and Offline – Use technology responsibly and make safe choices in all environments.
  • Use Respectful Words and Actions – Communicate and behave in ways that help everyone feel valued and included.
These shared commitments reflect our dedication to equity, inclusion, well-being, and student success. By living the Avondale Agreements each day, we ensure that every student feels welcomed, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
