This site features the policies, operational procedures, and related forms of the Toronto District School Board. There are many ways to access in the information contained in each of these types of documents. Our institute offers several opportunities for students to develop interpersonal and leadership skills through both the curricular and co-curricular programs. Students are provided with the opportunity to build self-confidence, to improve community skills, and to meet new people. Students will be credited with hours towards their mandatory Community Service. Leadership experiences on a student’s resume have proven useful in gaining acceptance to many programs in post-secondary education institutions.

It is the responsibility of parents to drop off their kindergarten children at their entry door and to pick them up at the end of the school day. All children must be supervised by a parent/caregiver on the school yard until staff supervision begins at 8:40 a.m. and after staff supervision ends at 3:50 p.m. Students are expected to enter the school with their classmates on the ringing of the entry bell at 8:50 a.m.
Safe Arrival Regular and punctual attendance is expected from all students as it promotes success in academic and social areas. Students not in their classrooms at 8:55 a.m. will be marked late. If you know that your child will be away or arriving late, please call our Safe Arrival Line at 416-393-9104 and follow the prompts to leave a message before the start of school. If the school has not been notified of your child’s absence, the automated system will call and email until an appropriate response has been entered.
Keeping Us Informed If you move or change the phone number or address of your home/business or your emergency contact person, it is critical that the school office be informed in writing so that our data can be up to date and we can reach a caregiver in the event of an emergency.
Safety and Security at Blythwood Due to COVID-19 only essential visitors are permitted in the school. Please call the office at 416-393-9105 if you need access to the school to make an appointment.
Our school doors are locked after morning entry and remain locked throughout the day. If you are dropping off lunches or other items for the students you must do so at front door. Please do not take these items to the classrooms. We encourage all students to bring all homework and materials required for the school day.
The students and staff of the TDSB are expected to practice for unexpected events including fire drills, lockdowns and evacuations. We practice in order to ensure that if we were ever in a situation of risk we would know how to calmly, appropriately and safely deal with the situation.
Recess & Outdoor Play Students are expected to dress appropriately for all weather conditions. All students are required to play outside during recess breaks, weather permitting. Students should also wear proper running shoes for physical education classes.
Lunch Routines Students are supervised by our team of Lunchroom Supervisors and are expected to follow lunchroom rules and expectations.
- Students eat their lunch at a seat, tidy up their things and wait to be dismissed.
- Students should aim to bring a litterless lunch – including using reusable containers and less plastic.
- Blythwood has a boomerang lunch program, which means taking everything back home…food waste, recycling and garbage.
- Our school strives to be allergen-free and we ask that no nut products be sent with your children.
Allergy Awareness We have many individuals with life-threatening allergies and we are committed to ensuring that all students, staff and volunteers are safe and their well-being is maintained. We ask that you do not send any products with nuts or nut products to school for lunch or snack. We ask students not to share food with each other. Teachers will be communicating with parents to inform them of any severe allergies that exist for students in the class so we can do our best to provide a safe environment for all.
Money, Valuables and Toys
Students are asked not to bring valuables, including money, electronic, and toys, to school. Students should only bring small amounts of money for fundraising events. Once money or valuables have gone missing, it is extremely difficult to account for their loss, and the school cannot be responsible for replacement.
