Welcome to Golf Road Junior Public School!

Welcome to the wonderful website of Golf Road Junior Public School.  We have an amazing community of students, families, friends and teachers.  We look forward to working together, creating a culture of caring and on-going excellence. 

As we embark upon this school year, the Golf Road community will focus on the directives of the TDSB.  Together we will make our school effective, create strong partnerships, show leadership, and continue to be environmentally sustainable.

I want to thank our staff for all their hard work in getting our year off to such a great start.  The amount of organizing and planning requires great effort from everyone and does not go unnoticed. 

You will be informed through regular communication as to the happenings within our school.  Please carefully read all communication that is sent home to keep you abreast of all that is going on in your child’s school.  

We suggest you take some time to talk with your child about his or her learning skills, celebrate the successes and make a plan to address the areas in which your child needs to work on. 

Please continue to practice safe school habits by always crossing at a designated cross walk on your way to and from school.  Just as importantly, remember to always look both ways before you cross the street.  Pay careful attention to drop off locations and road safety when you bring your children to school.  Safety is key! Please note our driveway and school parking lot are closed to parents.  It is for staff only.  New this year, we have a designated bus zone for students who are bussed to school.  This area must remain clear at all times.  When dropping off or picking up students,  there is parking available on side streets (Par Avenue, Chandler Drive and Janray Drive).

When visiting the school, remember your first point of entry is the school office.  For the safety of everyone, it is very important to sign in to the office and get a visitor or volunteer pass to wear for the time you are in the building.  We want to remain clear about who our guests are and keep our school safe.  Thank you for working together to make Golf Road a great place!

Character Education


 

Character development at the TDSB is about helping students learn and practice positive character attributes. When we build good character, we build strong communities. In the school community, character development is woven into programs and practices it becomes a way of life.

Student success is dependent on a safe, caring and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued. This starts by teaching our students about the value of character – respecting themselves and each other, making positive contributions to their school and community and thinking critically and creatively.

School & Online Code of Conduct

Our Commitment

Golf Road Junior Public School is committed to providing a healthy learning and working environment by promoting respect, civility, safety, responsible citizenship and academic excellence. A positive school climate exists when all members of the school community feel safe, comfortable and accepted.

The Golf Road Junior Public School Code of Conduct is developed in accordance with the Toronto District School Board’s (TDSB) Code of Conduct, the TDSB's policies and operational procedures, the Education Act and the Provincial Code of Conduct. The Golf Road Junior Public School Code of Conduct also reflects the values and expectations of the Golf Road community.

The standards of behaviour outlined in the Golf Road Junior Public School Code of Conduct shall apply to all members of the school community, including students, parents and guardians, teachers and other school staff, Board members, volunteers and visitors:

- On school property
- While traveling on a school bus that is owned by the Board or that is under contract to the Board
- In-school sports activities
- In off-site school-sponsored activities
- In circumstances where engaging in an activity will have an impact on the school climate


Standards of Behaviour

All members of the school community are expected to:

- Respect and comply with all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws
- Demonstrate honesty and integrity
- Respect differences in people, their ideas and opinions
- Treat one and other with dignity and respect at all times, and especially when there is a disagreement
- Respect and treat other fairly, regardless of their race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, gender, gender identity, family status, marital status, sexual orientation, creed (faith), socio-economic status, same-sex partnership status, age or disability
- Respect the rights of others
- Show proper care and regard for school property and the property of others
- Take appropriate measures to help those in need
- Respect persons who are in a position of authority
- Respect the need of others to work in an environment of learning and teaching


Progressive Discipline

When students breach the Code of Conduct, consequences will be consistent with progressive discipline techniques. Progressive discipline is a whole-school approach that utilizes a continuum of interventions, supports, and consequences to address inappropriate student behaviour and to build on strategies that promote positive behaviours. When inappropriate behaviour occurs, disciplinary measures should be applied within a framework that shifts the focus from one that is solely punitive to one that is both corrective and supportive. Schools should utilize a range of interventions, supports, and consequences that include learning opportunities for reinforcing positive behaviour while helping students to make good choices.
