Reading Program

Reading Program

Henry Kelsey Families,

We are very excited to launch our Henry Kelsey Literacy Program today! Students from all over the school and from every class will have the opportunity to work in small groups for reading this year. Our staff and students will be focused on targeted instruction at student level to move everyone forward in reading!

We have created groups within the school and many students will also have the opportunity to work with teachers who specialize in reading including both Jennifer Koptie (Vice Principal) and Nicole Miller (Principal). All classes are involved and we will be supporting students in selecting resources and working in small groups to improve their reading, writing, and oral literacy skills as well as to enrich their daily reading programming.

Our school has devoted significant financial commitment to the purchase of new resources that are culturally relevant and responsive as well as leveled to support very specific instruction and support for students. Last year we piloted the program with a smaller group of students and we experienced a great deal of success and student achievement! We are thrilled to be able to offer this experience to even more students in the school this year.

This is an exciting school wide initiative and we look forward to hearing from students and families about the experience and progress!

Below is a graphic that helps us think about what activities create great readers! Our staff will be working this year to ensure that we meet as many of these items each day, as possible. We know improving literacy skills, improves student outcomes across all subjects!

Don’t hesitate to email us at the school or call your child’s teacher to learn more!
