School Council

School Council

Dear Parents and Families,

We wanted to invite and encourage Parents/Guardians to get involved with our Highcastle School Council this year. Below are some answers to some common questions related to the School Council. It is our hope that this information will help you see how you can be involved.

Who: The School council is made up of interested parents/guardians and staff members. All parents of students are welcomed to attend all meetings and to participate in discussions. Elected parent representatives will be able to vote on issues discussed at meetings.

What: The School Council meets to provide an opportunity for parents and other community members to discuss important issues that affect the students of Highcastle. These include, but are not limited to:

  • School Improvement Plan (SIP) : Achievement, Equity, and Well-Being
  • safe school policies
  • school budget priorities and ways we can help support these through fundraising efforts
  • community initiatives such as Health and Wellness Night or Fun Days

Where: The School Council meets via Virtual Meeting.

When: The School council meets approximately once per month for about 1 hour each time. Dates will be announced well ahead of time so you can plan to sign on.

Why: It would be wonderful to see as many parents/guardians as possible attend meetings when they can. There are too many reasons to list them all here, but here are a few:

  • Research has shown that when parents are involved in their child’s school, it helps students excel academically and socially
  • You can have an input into improving your child’s school experience
  • It is genuinely fun to get to know some other parents and some of your child’s teachers

How: How can you be involved? By attending to as many meetings as you can, holding an elected position on the School Council, or volunteering for school events when possible.
