Kindness Campaign

Kindness Campaign

At Humewood we emphasize treating one another in a kind and respectful manner. We embed experiences that highlight positive relationship building into the daily experiences.

As an example, November 17th – 21st, 2014, was Bullying Prevention and Awareness Week. Humewood talked about how we can work together to keep our school community safe and respectful.

Our activities included:
1.  Staff celebrating students by posting "Caught Ya Caring" certificates.
2.  Students creating a "Chain Reaction" with acts of kindness.  Each child wrote an about an act of kindness they experienced and we linked all their entries into our "Chain Reaction."
3.  A parent evening about stress reduction and management with Toronto Public Health hosted at Davisville Public School.
4.  Professional development for our Student Mental Health and Wellness staff committee leaders.
5.  Assemblies promoting empathy.
6.  Playground Leader (PALS) Appreciation Day.
7.  A pajama day to symbolize that we are putting bullying to bed!

In addition to the supports offered through the TDSB, the Kids Help Phone is an organization that is very helpful. Check it out at: http://www.kidshelpphone.ca. There are a wealth of resources for youth and families through this organization. Be sure to also visit: http://www.bullyingawarenessweek.org to learn more about how we can put an end to bullying.

Thank you to everyone at Humewood who uses kindness and inclusion as guiding principles. It makes a difference!  Let's see what we else we can accomplish in 2014-2015.
