John McCrae was a poet, a doctor, an author an artist and a soldier during World War One.
He was born in Guelph, Ontario on November 30, 1872
While experiencing fighting in Belgium, Dr. John McCrae worked to help the many wounded and dying soldiers. After experiencing the death of a friend, he was inspired to write a poem. The poem he wrote is now the very famous poem called, In Flanders Fields. The poem honoured his friend as well as the many soldiers who had been killed in battle.
McCrae died on January 28, 1918 at the age of 45. He died from pneumonia.
