ELECTIONS FOR THE KEW BEACH SCHOOL COUNCIL  


Under Provincial regulations, elections for school council members must be held within the first 30 days of the start of the school year. All parents are welcome to attend school council meetings.

School Councils: School Councils are a partnership involving parents, educators, teachers, principals, school boards, government and community in enhancing the education of students.

FALL ELECTION PROCESS
All parents are invited to nominate themselves for an open position on the Executive with the intent that they would serve on the Executive for a minimum of 2 years (elections will be held annually).

1. Co – Chair: The Co-Chair is an elected position within the Council and must be a parent or parents who are not employed by the School Board. In addition to performing the same duties as other council members, the Co-Chair may also be responsible for:
 Arranging for meetings
 Preparing agendas
 Chairing Council meetings
 Facilitating the resolution of conflict
 Ensuring the minutes of the Council are recorded and maintained
 Participating as ex-officio members of all committees established by the Council
 Communicating with the Principal on behalf of the School Council
 Providing input on behalf of the Council on issues related to Principal selection, classroom size, setting education priorities for examples

2. Secretary - The Secretary is an elected position within the Council and must be a parent or parents who are not employed by the School Board. In addition to performing the same duties as other Council members, the Secretary is primarily responsible for recording attendance and minutes at Council meetings. The Secretary will work collaboratively with the School Co-Chairs and the Communications Chair to distribute meeting minutes and materials; manage email distribution lists and manage online voting as needed.

3. Committee Chairs – Committee Chairs are elected positions within the Council and must be a parent or parents who are not employed by the School Board. (e.g., parent engagement chair, eco-school chair, etc.)
