Each TDSB school is required to have a school council made up of the Principal, parents /caregivers, teachers, support staff, students (secondary schools), and community members.  The purpose of the school council is to actively engage parents /caregivers to improve student success.  It also provides a regular opportunity for its members to discuss how to make the school a better place for learning for its students.  The Principal brings important information about the school to the school council.  The school council, in turn, advises the Principal on matters related to the learning goals of the school, the school's policies and procedures, students' needs, activities and resources for students and parents/caregivers, and ways of involving parents/caregivers in the life of the school.  

The school council is required to hold at least four general meetings each school year that are open to all parents/caregivers in the school, and a membership election in September. The elected Chair of the school council is a parent/caregiver of a child in the school.

Elections Evening - Wednesday, October 7th 3-7 p.m.

• Only parents/guardians of currently registered children attending Lord Roberts JPS can participate in the voting process
• The elections shall be by secret ballot the evening of Wednesday, October 7th from 3-7 p.m. in the Staffroom at Lord Roberts Junior PS.

List of candidates and brief biography:

Khadija Alrais - I am a responsible, organized, and dependable person with good communication and teamwork skills. I enjoy working with others, sharing ideas, and listening to different perspectives. I am interested in supporting students, helping the school community, and contributing to activities and decisions that benefit students and families.

Sitina Hamdela - On top of my business management and cyber security background, I have  interpersonal and organizational skills. As a parent with two children that goes to Lord Roberts, I am running for the school council to positively contribute and be vocal in supporting our children and the school community.

Anu Jeyanthan - My journey with this school began in 2015, and over the years, I have become a proud and active member of our school community. I am running in this election to represent the parents and be a voice for our community. I will listen to your ideas and concerns, represent your opinions, and work hard to bring positive changes to our school community. Thank you for your support and your vote!

Reena King - Working with kids at an afterschool program diversity and community builds character and curiosity. I would love to apply my creative skills and love for kids to this year’s school calendar.

Madan Lamichhane - I have already worked in School Council at Highschool in Sir Wilfred Collegiate. I am interested to serve in the community.

Nadia Mohammed - I’m excited to be running for School Council again this year. School Council matters to me because it gives parents a voice in our school community. Together, we can support positive changes, advocate for what’s best for our children, and help create an environment where all students are supported and able to thrive. When we all contribute with purpose and meaning, even in small ways, we can make a positive impact. Let’s work together to build a stronger more connected school community. Vote for me! Sujitha Pavananthan - I have been a part of the Lord Roberts Junior Public School community for more than 12 years. I have been an active volunteer for many years and have also been actively involved in the Parent Council. I would like to continue being part of the School Council so that I can contribute to further building our school community and supporting its continued growth. Thank you for your consideration!

Dawn Wickham - I am an organized and dependable person who enjoys working with others and bringing new ideas to life. My interests include music, event planning, creativity and helping create positive experiences for others. I am also passionate about supporting children in ways that makes it enjoyable for them yet still getting the task at hand done. I have strong communication and teamwork skills.
