Medieval Adventure by Brenzel Baker

On October 17, 2012, room 15 went to the Royal Ontario Museum [ROM] to learn more about the Middle Ages and other interesting facts there.

When we first got to the ROM a guide took us to a lab with artifacts that the people in Medieval Times actually used. In the lab room there were five tables with different Medieval artifacts. At my table there was an axe with no handle, a bone that they used as a skate, and a medical tool for the hospitals in the Middle Ages. Other tables had different artifacts like book, a dagger and one table even had a bottle of gold and a part of some armour.

After the lab room we went to an exhibit with are guide Dona. The exhibit was a collection of Middle Ages swords and armor. First we went to the sword section and saw different kinds of swords in the Middle Ages. There were long swords, flat swords and swords with different handles it was really cool. After we looked at the sword section we went over to the armour section and saw different kinds of armour like training armour, small armour, big armour and armour made from different metal. After that exhibit we went and had lunch.

After lunch in the afternoon we went and split up into two groups the first group was with Mr. Shouldice and the second was with Ms. Wong, I was in Ms.Wong’s group.

When we split up our group went up some stairs and went into this bat cave where you walk through this tunnel which the walls our shaped like real walls of a bat cave and above us, there were models of bats hanging on little strings but you couldn’t see it that well because it was dark and that made look even more cool. “I liked the bat cave because it was really realistic and interesting.” Julia said. It was kind of scary to some people but at the same time interesting.
After the bat cave we went to reptile exhibit and saw a long snake skin and skeleton. In one part of the exhibit there was a wall full of different kind of horns from different animals with horns. Then we went to the kid’s area and tried on replicas of small armour and dressed up as king and queen. Once that was done we went to a bird room where there were two big glass cases with models of different kind of birds that were hanging by little see through strings. There were different colour birds and small birds and all different kind of birds but there was one that was bigger than the students and looked like a seagull.

After the bird exhibit we went to the dinosaur exhibit where there were real bones of dinosaurs but some bones were missing so they had replicas of those bones. There was one dinosaur that had a tale as long as a few cars but that was only the first section so we went into the second section. In the second section there was T-Rex that was really tall and a turtle really big because it was from way back in the dinosaur times. After that exhibit we went back down to our coats and bags and started walking back to Ogden.

On the way back to Ogden we walked and thought about what our favourite part was and what we saw and how it would be to live in the Middle Ages.
