All students in Kindergarten through grade 8 receive music instruction in their regular timetable by a qualified music specialist on staff.Students in Kindergarten through grade 4 receive instruction in singing, rhythm Orff instruments, and basic music theory and appreciation. Students in grades 5 through 8 receive instruction on band instruments and music history.
All students at SS receive music instruction as part of their scheduled subjects. The music program for students in grades 1-4 is mainly vocal with the use of hand percussion instruments and Orff instruments such as xylophones and metallophones. Students have exposure to various types of music and learn about rhythm-reading. The music program for students in grades 5-8 is mainly band. Students learn basic theory. There are 2 extra curricular bands for students who want to join, get more playing experience and have opportunities to perform at the school Winter and Spring Showcase Concerts. The Junior Band is made up of students in grades 6 and 7 and 8 as coaches. The Senior Band is made up mainly of students in grades 7 and 8.
