Subway Academy One is a small alternative school
which serves a community of academically driven students as well as students who face multiple barriers to finishing high school. Our dynamic teaching staff is committed to engaging, encouraging and guiding students to success in our program regardless of life challenges.
Based on ministry standards and our own unique approach to education students are introduced to methods of positive expression, identity and confidence building, creative and critical thinking skills as well as social and emotional well being. Our program focuses heavily on skill based learning and our relaxed environment appeals to most students.
The breadth and depth of our program provides a full range of 12U courses as well as a limited number of core grade 9 – 10’s.
We offer some applied level courses and are not equipped to fully support students with Individual Education Plans. We have an guidance counsellors with a staff of 11.
TDSB Alternative schools offer students and parents something different from mainstream schooling. Each alternative school, whether elementary or secondary is unique, with a distinct identity and approach to curriculum delivery. They usually feature a small student population, a commitment to innovative and experimental programs, and volunteer commitment from parents/guardians and other community members. While the schools offer Ministry approved courses, these courses are delivered in a learning environment that is flexible and meets the needs of individual students.
Each alternative school is a school of choice and has its own distinct culture. With such a wide range of alternative schools representing a host of different program delivery models, it is important for students and their families to visit a variety of alternative schools before choosing one that best meets their needs
