BAF3M: Accounting Fundamentals - Grade 11, College/University

This course will introduce students to the use of accounting in business. It is useful for beginners and for students who have worked as accountants in their own countries. Everyone will learn from the beginning the necessary terms in accounting and the ways accounting procedures are applied in different types of businesses. Topics covered will include: the types of business ownership, the advantages and disadvantages of each type of ownership, accounting rules and procedures, transactions and how to do them, the ledger, the journal, work sheets, financial statements, the accounting cycle and accounting in the merchandising industry.

This course introduces students to the fundamental principles and procedures of accounting. Students will develop financial analysis and decision-making skills that will assist them in future studies and/or career opportunities in business. Students will acquire an understanding of accounting for a service and a merchandising business, computerized accounting, financial analysis, and ethics and current issues in accounting.

At the end of the 9-week course, students will be confident to enter the part-time career Exploration Cooperative Education Program or can continue to the advanced accounting course and join the Full Time Coop Program at the conclusion of both accounting courses.

BAT4M: Financial Accounting Principles - Grade 12, College/University

Students will learn about debit and credit cards, electronic funds transfers, certified cheques and money orders, cash and non-cash transactions in the synoptic journal and in the 5 journals.  Students will also prepare and analyze financial statements of partnerships and corporations by creating statements and completing ratios.  The preparation of petty cash transactions, bank reconciliations, payroll entries will directly help students in finding a workplace position.   Students will also be well prepared for further accounting courses at college or university.

This course introduces students to advanced accounting principles that will prepare them for post-secondary studies in business. Students will learn about financial statements for various forms of business ownership and how those statements are interpreted in making business decisions. This course expands students’ knowledge of sources of financing, further develops accounting methods for assets, and introduces accounting for partnerships and corporations.

BAN4E: Accounting for a Small Business - Grade 12, Workplace

This course further develops students’ understanding of the fundamentals of accounting by having them examine each component of the accounting cycle, with an emphasis on a merchandising business. Students will use computer applications software to learn how accounting is practised in the workplace. Students will acquire an understanding of payroll systems, inventory, specialized journals, subsidiary ledgers, income tax reporting, and budgeting. Software used: Simply Accounting and QuickBooks

BBI2O: Introduction to Business - Grade 10, Open

This course introduces students to the world of business. Students will develop an understanding of the functions of business, including accounting, marketing, information and communication technology, human resources, and production, and of the importance of ethics and social responsibility. This course builds a foundation for further studies in business and helps students develop the business knowledge and skills they will need in their everyday lives.

 

BMI3C: Marketing: Goods, Services, Events - Grade 11, College

This course introduces the fundamental concepts of product marketing, which includes the marketing of goods, services, and events. Students will examine how trends, issues, global economic changes, and information technology influence consumer buying habits. Students will engage in marketing research, develop marketing strategies, and produce a marketing plan for a product of their choice.

BOH4M: Business Leadership: Management Fundamentals - Grade 12, Mixed

This course helps students prepare for managerial positions in their future careers. Students will focus on the develo0pment of core skills required to become a successful manager, including operations management, inventory control, marketing, financial planning, scheduling, and communication. Student will also explore the management challenges of hiring, training, and motivating employees, and complying with legal requirements.

IDC4O: Managing your Money - Introduction to Financial Planning

This course investigates financial management, capital markets and ways in which capital is acquired. Students will use various information skills and technologies to gather information related to a variety of Canadian and international financial institutions, examine ways of increasing net worth, and consider investment in the stock market and several other investments.

BDV4C: Entrepreneurship: Venture Planning - Grade 12, College Preparation

This course provides students with the opportunity to develop and apply entrepreneurship skills through the creation of a venture plan the capitalizes on the potential of e-commerce. Students will research and identify an opportunity and complete components of a venture plan, including a website.

BBB4M: International Business Fundamentals - Grade 12, University/College Preparation

This course provides an overview of the importance of international business and trade in the global economy and explores the factors that influence success in international markets. Students will learn about the techniques and strategies associated with marketing, distribution, and managing international business effectively. This course prepares students for postsecondary programs in business, including international business, marketing, and management.
